I was there when they were construcing it and I attended one of the first FIFA youth soccer championship game there. After the game an earthquake hit. Earthquakes are rare to be felt since Iquitos is so far away. This hit in the high Andes. The river usually absorbs the sound waves and we never feel them. But this time the water level wad so low it shook the whole stadium. We quickly ran out onto the field in case of collapse of the over head lights and structure. Most people didn't know what was going on and just looked puzzle. We're from California! :)
