It's a coastal journey, not into deep fjords other than Trollfjord, lots of islands instead then mountains north of the Arctic Circle. On the Nordnorge, the food was excellent, the staff very friendly and helpful, the excursions were expensive but worthwhile and the information about Norway was brilliant.

Just returned from our 3rd voyage with H. Previously have been up to Artic and back, but this time, we had a 6 day amble around Sth coast UK. The staff are charming, the food delicious, the cabin luxurious, the ambiance relaxed. What's there not to like - count me in on every trip please!
The only good thing on our cruise around Svalbard was the food. The worst thing, which everybody goes for, was the wildlife. We had good views of the walrus and a humpback whale, but everything else were like dots on the landscape. Unless you had a very large lens on your camera you would see nothing. We saw two polar bears, one arctic fox, one seal and several reindeer all from distance. The only birds we got close to were the ones flying around the ship. The birds on the cliffs we were not even aloud close enough for me to see even through my 500mm lens. If you like to observe wildlife this is not a trip for you. I was very disappointed with this cruise and for the money paid it was an extreme letdown. I know you are not guaranteed to see wildlife, but even when they knew wildlife was about you were not allowed close enough to see them properly. For views of wildlife please go anywhere else but here.
Hurtigruten cruise to Norway is without doubt the best holiday, the service, food, tour reps and staff were absolutely brilliant at their job, I would definitely go with them again. Our ship Nordlyss was very warm and clean and comfortable, not too many people, a very informative Captain, cannot praise it enough. More than 5 stars.
Care! This company will keep your deposit and not allow you to transfer it to another cruise should you have to cancel, even if you give them more than one year's notice of cancellation and irrespective of whether the cruise becomes fully sold out (so that Hurtigruten suffer no loss) - if you have to book with them, leave it until the last possible moment in case you need to cancel for an uninsured reason. A reputable agent like Readers Offers Ltd may refund their small part of the deposit, but they are powerless to stop Hurtgruten making off with most of your money.
