Nuestra Palabra began in the party hall of Chapultepec restaurant in 1998. In just a few short years, we were filling the George R. Brown Convention Center for one of the largest book fair in Texas. We are blessed to serve the Latino community and Houston at large by changing the world through literature. Thanks to the support of our community, and folks across Houston, and Texas, and the nation, we have united to create some of the most potent movements of our time. From the organizing the 2012 Librotraficante Caravan to defy Arizona's ban of Mexican American Studies, to the NP Radio Show, to NP 2nd Generation writers who are now spreading the mission, we are honored to unite to show the world the beauty and power of our Community's Cultural Capital. We hope you will join us at our 21st anniversary showcase and all of our future events. #Unidos!

Nuestra Palabra is a great literary nonprofit for Latino writers. Tony Diaz and the other founding members were some of the first that supported my passion for poetry and gave me the first opportunities to share my voice with others - both on their radio show and at their literary events. Without their help, support and encouragement, I would have never been able to share the stage with such literary greats like Pulitzer Prize winner Junot Diaz or the PEN / Hemingway award winner Dagoberto Gilb. I owe so much to this wonderful organization and I am thrilled they are now helping a younger generation of Hispanic writers voice their stories in time that we need it most.
