The Marktplatz has at one end the Heidelberg castle, a sight to behold day or night and then the beautiful architecture all along the pedestrian zone. Walk down to the Neckar and you can have a lovely stroll along the river and a treat for those who want to take pictures around sundown.... Great place and city for a weekend getaway.

It is kind of a tourist area. What you will see and experience is a lot of history. In the summertime you can experience the outdoor shops and restaurants. From Thanksgiving through Christmas they have their Christmas markets going on. Tons of food, alcohol and crafts. In either case be sure to visit the Heidelberg castle.
