The Danish boat builder Hanus Jensen who is linked to the 'Viking Ship Museum' in Roskilde in Denmark built the first model of the current Viking Raider in 2006. After the required sailing trials and a few modifications, a boat was developed having a hull made from glass-fibre strength polypropylene, wich is a recyclable and maintenance-free type of plastic. This resulted in the creation of a unique, fully contemporary faering. Lightweight, exceedingly strong and beautiful in its simplicity. The sailing symbol of the Viking Raider has been borrowed from the writing used by the Vikings, the runic script. The sign symbolises an elk antler and stands for protection.
