Grand Choral Synagogue of St. Petersburg is the third largest one in Europe. Splendid both inside and outside its building is over 120 years old. Once a year, on International Museum Day, the Synagogue is opened for all visitors during the night, when they hourly run comprehensive tours free of charge. I've been there thrice and every time tours were guided by the same orthodox Jew, strikingly charismatic - he's going to make you fall about laughing. Sometimes excursions are added by a performance. You also can pop in their kosher cafe.

The 19. century downtown St. Petersburg Grand Choral Synagogue is really amazing, easy to approach walking (ulica Lermontova), the huge building was renovated professionally and very well maintained, the tours are very informative. A very quiet place to sit down and meditate. The service is continuous for believers, the tourists are also welcome. The shop is worth to have a look at. A must visit when in St. Petersburg. I hope the photos of US President's visit are still on display in the fantastic Jewish church. #synagogue

Very pretty, still active, now dominated by Chabad, could have more info on history, or a small museum. I found a table of photographs and of old booksin the basement, not on public display

Marvelous synagogue in the city, the design, colors and architecture stands out to be among the most beautiful buildings in the city. Stunning from the outside to the inside. Definitely should be a more recognize landmark here, I strongly recommend visiting it.

Only had time for a quick visit. Impressed by how busy it was. A synagogue in use! Inside very much like a Reformed church in Germany or Holland. Expect a guard in front of the building who may want to look inside your rucksack. About a 2km walk from Nevsky Prospekt.

Not only a fully functioning synagogue, but an architectural landmark too. There is a souvenir/kosher foods store and a restaurant on premises. The main synagogue is administered by Chabad. There's also a prayer hall of the Georgian Jews, which offers prayer in Sephardic tradition.

This is one of the most beautiful synagogues of st Petersburg ,was rebuilt and brought back to its original beauty, this is a place to see because of it’s history and beauty also they have a very good mini shop with Sacramental wine and a very nice selection of Jewish articles, the only thing is that there’s no parking lot in the synagogue but if you’re in a public transportation is very easy to get there.
