An amazing historic site that is definitely worth visiting! Tons to see in the battleground and in the surrounding historic towns, which also themselves were battlegrounds for the most part. Could take multiple trips and still see new things. The statues were nice and the additional of informational plaques and maps are very helpful and informative. The Park is very popular and was still open to the public as of November 2020. The visitor center was closed due to corona virus. Would recommend bringing a mask due to the popularity and population density around monuments. Plenty of monuments and skirmishes of the past to see and learn about. This is a great place for families and there are plenty of open spaces for picnics. The nearby town of Gettysburg has some nice shops and restaurants, as well as more battle sites and of course the site of the Gettysburg address. I strongly recommend visiting this amazing National Historic Site!

We had a great time over there in this summer. Really special and cool experience to tour via our car in Gettysbury National Military Park and read and felt the history. Highly recommend to visit with your children and family.

One of the most beautifully well preserved battlefields in North America, this National Military Park encompasses nearly four thousand acres around the town of Gettysburg and preserves the battle that took place over the first three days of July 1863. Visitors to the park should start by visiting the museum and getting maps and information about the battlefield and the numerous ways of touring the battlefield. Tours can be self guided, a private tour guide can be hired, or there are many battlefield walks facilitated by National Park Service Rangers throughout the year. The park is open throughout the year but services can be limited in the winter months and large crowds are to be expected in the summer and especially in July around the anniversary of the battle. Please dress appropriately for the level of activity planned when visiting and bring plenty of water, sunscreen and bug spray in the summer.

My husband and I decided to make a day of it before heading to Philadelphia. It was a great idea. I haven’t been there since my grade school field trip. Many things have changed and has been updated but still glorious. Spent hours doing the auto tour and viewing the monuments. Definitely will go back to see what we missed. There’s never enough time when enjoying & learning apart of history. “Remember, it’s because of them we are here today”

Some tips/basic info that we found useful: There is no admission to drive the park yourself. National park Access/Military/Golden Passes don’t do anything here. The road is free to drive but you can also opt to purchase a bus tour. Might be a good idea to do a bus if it’s busy because many of the tour stops don’t have much parking. You can also purchase an auto tour at the gift shop or App Store. Stops are numbered throughout the park. Brian Pickering on YouTube gives a free auto tour as well that coincides with the official auto tour stops. Google maps also has the stops listed so you can easily navigate to them. Leave plenty of time because if you make a few stops this could easily take you 4 hours or so.
