Very fascinating restaurant. Regular chip shop twinned with an intimate dining room next door. Fresh food made simple, you can't ask for anything more. Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff.
I have been to this fish and chip shop many times and have normally had a good experience. Tonight however I was served by a man who was not only rude and lacking in any customer service skills, but made me feel awful when I asked for 3 plastic bags to put each of our meals in (as we were eating in the car). I had no cash on me but offered to pay for them on my card, which he wouldn’t accept and he then proceeded to lecture me in front of another customer about how I should have asked for them and paid for them with my meal, making me feel even worse! I had no intention of getting the bags for free, so I took the meals back to the car and got 1 coin which I took back to the man. It would have cost 15p for the bags, so I hope he put the change towards customer services training for himself!! I will not be returning to find out. There are other good fish and chip shops in Oban with much nicer staff.
My husband and I recently had a short stay in Oban, where we went hillwalking in some of the local area. We ended up visiting this restaurant on 2 separate occasions! The fish and chips we had the first time were lovely, particularly the thin crispy batter on the haddock! It was served with a balsamic dressed rocket salad, which we loved. For pudding there was chocolate fudge cake, served warm with some pouring cream on the side. Mmmmmm, lipsmackingly lovely! On the second occasion, I chose one of the 'specials', being scallops and chorizo. I had a bowl full of beautifully cooked; sweet scallops with slices of spicy chorizo - a marriage made in heaven! This too had a balsamic dressed ricket salad and I also chose some crusty bread to mop up any delicious juices in the bowl. My husband had a huge portion of battered cod, accompanied by rocket salad and chips, which he thoroughly enjoyed. We shared an apple and red berry crumble, which I must confess was not of the same high standard. The crumble was soggy and there was no distinction in the fruit mix. It was served with pouring cream. There was a large drinks menu, we had sift drinks on both occasions as we were driving, so cannot comment on the wine or beers. All in all, I would rate this restaurant very highly, from the Track and Trace to service from dedicated staff and amazingly good food it was a great experience and one I would definitely repeat when visiting Oban again!
Visited Oban yesterday and decided to have our lunch at your restaurant. Both mine and my husbands fish and chips were excellent. My battered Cod was the best I have had in a long time and the waiter was so attentive nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting
