I applied for a copy of my son's birth certificate. They hadn't received the birth details from Hackney council despite the birth happening over 6 months previously and so they weren't able to complete the request. They still charged the administration fee. A customer service agent at the office informed me: \But you would still pay a call out fee to an engineer going to your house. We need to get paid.\ So they are admittedly happy to take your money without doing their job. I wouldn't pay the call out fee of an engineer who couldn't do their work because they didn't have a spanner.

I have always had great service online ordering BMD's certificates, also when querying entries. Without this site would not have solved many family history queries
My partner applied for a copy of her birth certificate six weeks ago. Still waiting, emails chasing up are ignored. Unsurprisingly they were highly efficient at taking her payment though. Typically useless Government run office.
