We booked this trip on what turned out to be a rare rainy day in Madeira, but nonetheless it was a great and informative day. Our driver was Filipe - as an experienced driver we felt entirely safe despite the challenging roads and weather. His knowledge of the island is incredible, and he was regularly points out plants, points of interest, landmarks and so on, and was a very chatty and friendly chap. The tour gave us a real appreciation of how varied a place Madeira is outside Funchal. The tour took us through smaller villages and rural areas on our way to Porto Moniz, with plenty of stops to enjoy the scenery and one at a local bar for a hot drink or a Poncha (strong rum with orange, lemon, and honey - very nice). It includes the West (Porto Moniz), North (Seixal), and South (Cabo Girao) of the island, each with their distinct geological features. At Porto Moniz you can do your own thing for lunch or pay an extra 10 for three courses at 'Orca'. The food wasn't amazing but for the money we were happy, and as a vegetarian I was well-catered for. Obviously the weather ruled out swimming in the volcanic pools (into which waves were crashing rather violently) - a pity but this gave us more time to enjoy the town, an interesting place with some great scenery, a couple of souvenir shops, one with a small, free fishing/whaling exhibition included (complete with a record-breaking saucepan, see pictures). On the way from Seixal to Cabo Girao Filipe kindly chose to make an additional stop just west of Cabo Girao as he felt the weather had disrupted the day. This was another chance for some great photos. All in all Filipe was a safe driver and informative guide, and this tour was an efficient way to see a lot of the island in one day. Highly recommended!

Absolute must. We had an incredible time. Our tour guide Phil was pleasant, funny and had the answers to all but one of our questions. We felt safe and secure through the off rode part of their. We had such a great time, we canceled our trip to East with another tour to use Safari Madeira again. You will see parts of the island you can not imagine.
We had a wonderful day with Diego in our Nissan 4x4 doing the West Tour of Madeira. Diego provided excellent hosting, charming humour and entertainment, put over in a most informative way. A lovely bar stop and lunch stop with fantastic views completed a perfect holiday 'safari'.
Booked an east of Madeira tour “jeep” turned up was a hard top Land Rover defender with the driver and three passengers already on board me and my partner was stuffed in the rear of the land rover in bench seats traveled in to Funchal by this time we where already uncomfortable sat with knees under chin and head touching roof. If this was the luxury trip I booked it was not my idea of luxury. Stopped the tour and got out in Funchal. The land rover was ancient and noisy definitely not luxury. What a disappointment ruined the day and the-rest of the holiday. Don’t book you will be dissatisfied not a good experience poor is an understatement rip off would’ve better.
Excellent tour (East) not to be missed. Lino was a great guide. Our fellow travellers were good company also.
Great fun ...we loved the off roading. Diego is v passionate about his home and made the trip special. We booked 3 trips as the highlight of our time here. Really recommend the sunset tour! Try the Poncha made by the locals .
Despite the rather cool and rainy weather throughout our East Coast full day trip, our driver and guide Filipe made the day memorable with his infectious laughter, superior driving skills and incredible knowledge of all things Madeira. Will definitely book with Safari Madeira again on our next visit and insist on having Filipe guide us once more. Obrigados from Canada, Poland and the UK... ️
An incredible experience. We undertook both the East and West tour with Nuno as our driver. The scenery was incredible, as were the off road sections. What really made the trip for us however was Nuno. He was knowledgeable, passionate about the island and great fun. An absolute must in Madeira and a bargain too!
