Very good seafood, yummy and soft garlic bread and an amazing service. The servers were so hilarious and kind! Loved the entire evening!

One of my favourite restaurants on Madeira. Nídia always makes sure we are well looked after, and we had the most amazing sea bream (pargo) in a salt crust, with rice, vegetables and fried maize, followed by a wonderful chocolate mousse. A must-visit every time we come back to the island. At least once. Love it every time

Atlantic grilled sardines were special and big one! Love sweet potatoes with garlic. I like pleasant service...

My wife and I were craving some good seafood that we knew Madeira is known for. We also wanted a cosy, authentic Madeiran seafood restaurant off the main commercial areas. Taberna Ruel ticked both these boxes. We ordered a seafood platter which comprised of the catches of the day, complemented with a bottle of excellent Madeiran wine recommended by their sommelier. The fish and shellfish were all extremely fresh and the wine recommendation was excellent (and also affordable). The staff were very helpful and accommodated our desire to have more shellfish over fish and allowed us to take away our dessert and wine when it proved that we were too full by the end of our meal. If you're after great seafood, I'd definitely recommend this place.

The restaurant was not even nearly full (it was rather empty) and the service was super super slow. We tried the vieiras and the raw material was great as you could expect in the middle of the Atlantic ocean but the way they were cooked left much to be desired. I wish I could talk about the octopus that I ordered but it took so long to come I decided to write this review in the meantime.
