Great day& place for a lovely, sunny winter's day...social distancing of course. What great views of the three bridges but for me, the rail bridge it the best, such a Scottish icon.

If you visit Edinburgh have trip to Fife and take in the crossing across the Forth to places like Kinghorn. It's cheap to get there and really quick journey. Crags and Arthur's Seat in the distance.

Loved the scenic view and must visit place when you visit to Edinburgh. Either take a bus tour or take a 15 Mon train to Dalmeny and then 10 Mon wall to bridge and ferry . Ferry is really good with decent price .

This bridge is the most memorable structure I've ever seen and I have seen a lot, but the size and strength of it's construction is reported to be only superseded by another bridge in Canada, which I have not seen. The two suspension bridges next to The Firth of Forth Bridge appear so much less sturdy, which is their strength I'm told as they flex in the wind. They are automobile bridges. The older of those we have driven across. The newer one was under construction at the time, but nearly finished as you can see in the image showing portions of all of the three. Two of the images of the middle stanchion of the Firth of Forth Bridge appear hazy which I did not want to edit out because of the level of humidity in the air from water being sheared off the waves in the Firth due to the the Gale(45mph) or Whole Gale winds (55mph). Those images also show the West Inch Garvie Lighthouse just under the bridge. The height of the light in the lighthouse is 33 feet above the water which gives you a scale of the immense height and massiveness of the bridge. This lighthouse is for outbound (east-bound in this case) ship-age to avoid the 4 bridge stanchions and Inch Garvie in the middle of the firth. There is also a house built into the bridge structure for the bridge attendants to stay in while working to inspect and maintain the bridge. If you look in Google Earth and zoom down towards the north end of the 4 stanchions in the middle of the firth you can just see a portion of lighthouse and the stone islet built for the lighthouse just north of the north-west stanchion. Or you can see my images here containing the lighthouse. Unfortunately I could not use a higher magnification because of the wind even though I was under the lee of a stone bulwark. The wind was howling.
