The Northern Store in Fort Simpson, at the time of my experience there, was well stocked and clean. The staff was friendly and fairly knowledgeable. The store is very typical of Northern Stores found throughout the NWT. It carries a wide variety of goods such as pots, pans, basic hardware, etc. Of course, there is a good variety of food. The cost can be high, especially during break up and freeze over. These are the weeks when when goods can only be imported via air. In general, the Northern is one stop shopping and serves the needs of a Northern community very well. I would go as far as to say it could be considered one of the lifelines of the community.

There is everything here that you need to prepare a nice meal, if you have a kitchen. A nice surprise in such a northern community in the north. Helpful staff to direct you to the things you really need.
Better stocked in summer months but the special deals on canned goods and ice cream always seem to run out after the first day! Meat does not seem so fresh and full as usual this visit
I was really happy that they have diesel and it was a lot cheaper than Vancouver prices. The coffee was surprisingly really good and there were lots of friendly people inside.
Pretty much only spot in Fort Simpson to buy groceries. It has a pizza hut kiosk which is convenient yet pricey. Its a nrthern version of walmart with less options and more expensive.
Good options
The only grocer in town. Expensive, quality can be mediocre for freshness (especially for veggies), and on the dry goods side, they have a few of the things you need, but never some of the things you need. Would give fourth star if prices here decreased!
Prices are crazy high here, the only good thing about this store is that it is in the centre of town an sits open until 7pm. They have a gas bar that is open later too until 10-11pm. Produce is okay, they offer Kirkland style bigger packages for people who wanna buy nuts or granola bars in bigger packs. They offer a variety of sales that change every week and those are the best things to shop for making the prices seem crazy. There is a pizza Hut open on weekdays inside the store and that's the only reason I gave it an extra star because that pizza Hut is like classic pizza Hut even though the dough comes frozen from down south.
