Very long shingle coastline which is good for fishing. Has a deep shore if your able to cast a good distance. Car park is a good size but only free after 1800 daily.

The actual Fort has an unattractive but effective fence around it. The area and walks around there are nice with access to the beach. Popular with dogs and their humans.
The poor old fort has a barrier all around it due to a failed scheme to convert it into housing for rich people. Now, it looks ugly, and walkers cannot even climb up the bank to get a good view over the Solent as they once could. Despite this, the area round about is great for walking, and watching shipping.
As a walk it's very nice but fort gilkicker is a mess what a waste of a historic building it been a building site for the best part of 20 years now! What a pity
