I love this castle. It is less crowded than Versailles but just as beautiful. The gardens are pretty nice, and there is a lake where you can rent boat/kayak. Picnic is allowed in some parts of the gardens too!
In the midst of the abject misery of lockdown Europe, Fontainebleau was a ray of beauty, brilliance and joy! Just fabulous! And in a very pretty town with amazing food shops.

Amazing view. Big and beautiful with different types of entertainment. Blue water with fountain , Small lake (with only 5 euro private boat per half hour ), gardens. Clean and easy accessible. Free to visit (no tickets).
Beautiful and impressive castle grounds. Even worthwhile with some rain. Fontainebleau is also a very elegant town.
If u look for the glamour of Versailles but dont want to spent hrs waiting before u can enter, then visiting the château de Fontainebleau is Great alternative
