Fjerritslev, Denmark
Sletteåvej
N/A
With a total run of \u003c15 km from start to finish in the North Sea and a drop of 25m over the last 4km, Slette å is the only "mountain" stream in Denmark. From Hjortdal Church with good parking and toilet conditions, there are several beautiful walks through Svinkløv Plantage, which in recent years is increasingly laid out to natural forest without operation. We prefer the Red Route and start by walking east through the forest: Impressive old Douglas and Sitka spruces, several of which may be 30m high, old oak trees and lots of scrub and hills. Ca. 40% in, we meet a small pond, where we notice (hear)---and with a bit of calm patience see---several amphibians 'anura's'. With a detour from the North Parking lot following the horseback (blue) route down to the sea, the trip is a total of 7km. The trip back to Hjortdal church goes south along the river and with a little luck we meet White wagtail and the horned owl. Since the current is dynamic; sometimes substantial, sometimes slow, depending on time of year we may also find different rare insects in and around the stream: nymphs of large Stonefly, Dragonfly, Ptycoptera with their architectural masterpiece-cocoons and many other species. Indeed a small pearl of Nature in largely agricultivated Denmark.
