I was in Florence in August 2017 and found this store. Brought a set at the time, just a standard Staunton pattern but beautifully finished....the good news is that my wife and I will be back in Florence in September this year....looking forward to buying a travel set (or two) this time around...

Specifically asked the store owner if the art piece was made in Florence and she confidently said Yes and that they own a workshop that produces these "bronze coated marble-powder statuettes". Came back home to find a miniscule "Made in P.R.C" sticker at the bottom of the box! Nevertheless, they stock some eye-catching and quirky animal/fantasy figurines.

Cortesi e competenti. Al rientro in albergo, nella bella scacchiera in marmo in offerta acquistata, vi erano un paio di pezzi leggermente difettosi. Sostituiti in un batter d'occhio, così come la valigetta, anch'essa leggermente graffiata. Scacchiere meravigliose.
