RNLI Calshot lifeboat patrols one of the busiest maritime areas in the UK. Established in 1970 and located on Calshot Spit, Calshot Lifeboat Station operates at the end of Southampton Water and into the Solent. The station currently houses two inshore lifeboats, a D class lifeboat, D-748 that came into service in Nov-2011 and a B class Atlantic 85, B860 craft joining it on station in July-2012. Both craft are launched using a specially designed M3 submersible tractor.
