Aalia - Charming Irony

A sweet little food joint with a lot of sweet people and delicious food. A big advantage for vegetarians that they cook at least one vegetarian dish everyday, freshly cooked. Another must have for vegetarians is their lentil soup, that is delicious with rice (or pulav as they call it). The salads are fresh and the bread is unlimited and price is included in the food itself, no extra charge. For my non vegetarian friends, they provide freshly made mutton, chicken, lamb and beef all day. Only thing to keep in mind is that the people in Istanbul have early dinners so by the time it's 7-7:30, dinner at local joints start getting over. And it gets difficult to get dinner in non touristy restuarant at night, specially vegetarian food. The image is of the chicken steak that my parents had.

This place was right opposite to the grand bazaar entrance. We didn't know it to be famous place. We were just looking for something local to try in Sultanahmet. I had chicken kebabs while my friend had meatballs. Both were delicious and cooked perfectly. It is at convenient walking distance from grand bazaar and therefore a good spot for lunch while strolling in Sultanahmet.

I absolutely wish we'd have eaten here the first night instead of the last. The grilled meats here are the best we've had on this trip and are significantly cheaper than all the other tourist-area food joints. Yum!

Having just 36 hours in Istanbul we wanted to score every “must have” food joint. This one was a bit tricky as it took us in by lanes of old city (where languages and pronunciation was bit of an issue) and after some effort we were led here and boy was it worth the effort. Chomped down on both lamb and chicken kebabs. Cooked to perfection served with bread and salad, it a great experience for us. Ps:attaching photos for place reference.
