We are just back from the Christmas Ligthts trail and had the most amazing evening. From the moment we pulled into the light festooned driveway I knew we would love it and we were not disappointed. It was truly beautiful and the staff could not have been friendlier. I will be recommending this to anyone who will listen!! I hope it is the first of many from the Courtney Family. Thank you for enhancing our Christmas!

Went on a free visit to Powderham Castle... With just 5 car parking to pay. I last visited many years ago when there was a highly entertaining jousting event on. Which was excellent. At the moment due to covid no guided tours are being done of the house, an audio guide is available, unfortunately none were available at the time of our visit. There are guides to ask questions but again due to social distancing it isn't always easy...and loitering to wait your turn to ask question is holding up other people trying to access rooms. Also no photos allowed.. Hence the visit took less than 30 minutes. No gift shop either. The cafe wasn't open, just a kiosk doing drinks and crisps, tho there is a farm shop 10 minutes walk, which sold pasties and cakes etc.. Their cafe and orangery resturant weren't open but there was an area to sit outside.. Weather permitting. If the weather is good maybe take a picnic as the surroundings is lovely. Also a petting zoo for youngsters.

Taking a step back in time is always memorable! Looking at how they lived in bygone eras. The awe of the size and the mystery as you touch handles that have been touched for centuries! Captivating and mesmerising!!
