Elvaston Castle is a Grade 11 listed stately home with beautiful surrounding parkland, woodlands and formal gardens. This is all set within its 200 acres of grounds. The Castle has fallen into disrepair at the moment and is not open to the public though there are takeout drinks and cakes at the Wyatt Cafe. There are also drinks and ice cream in the car park area. There is a small charge using the car park 1.60 for a few hours. A great place to visit if you enjoy the countryside with a lake filled with wild birds and a nice place to walk your dogs. The Castle is apparently haunted with 4 ghosts

Wow. I can't believe I've never been here and it only 30 minutes from where I live. Splendid castle and beautiful gardens with fantastic topiary. Lots of walks around the edge of the grounds which stretch for a few miles. Look out for the carved tree stumps, some of which are amazing. I would recommend taking some wellies or walking boots, as it does get very wet and muddy underfoot. Lots of small lakes and ponds with a few hides to view the birds. Good for walking and cycling. Probably ok for wheelchairs in the drier months of the year. Plenty of car parking, but I would recommend getting there very early on a sunny day, as the car park does fill up very quickly. There are toilets at the car park and the castle, but due to the current restrictions the castle ones are not open, so go before you leave the car park. In the castle grounds there is a takeaway selling tea's and coffee's, cakes and sandwiches.

Absolutely beautiful place - even if it's wet! I went with my family to Elvaston Castle Country Park a couple of days ago, we have visited many times in the summer and spring but we needed a place outside to go to and even though it was wet and boggy there is still plenty to do! (Even more so if you have wellies!) We were able to walk from the car park, over the small bridge where you can see some beautiful sights of the small lake running underneath, walking all the way to the ducks, seeing a cave opening and walking up to the castle. Even in a Tier 3 place, the cafe was still serving - Hot Chocolate (3 different types?!), coffees, pastries, cakes and more which is ideal when you have to stay outside in cooler weather than you would like. There are toilets which have a queuing system to make sure that it is safe for everyone and there were 2 wonderful guys playing songs and singing for charity. People dancing, singing and just having a great time and they said they would be there again the following week (I think they are there every week?) And then that was our 2 hours up and there was still loads more to see! I believe there is also a gift shop. The car park was packed but this was because everyone on Derbyshire seemed to be there, the car park is big and we soon enough got a space, you do have to pay for parking. Beautiful place, lots of walks. If it has been raining then wear sensible shoes or wellies as your feet won't get as cold and you will have much more fun going through the puddles and mud instead of finding other routes.

This was found by accident one Sunday and it has become our new favourite place to go with the lads we support. We thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful September sunshine and the park has so many things to explore. Our very best place is the English Garden. So peaceful and beautiful there.
