Wonderful place with a rich history. Absolutely worth it to take a look inside, Both for the building as for the story. I found it very special that the river runs underneath the building.

The amazing thing about Canterbury is that you can wander around and just stumble across something like this. A hospital, you say? Well over 800 years old, you say? Well, let’s take a look! Both my bride, the medical doctor, and myself, the amateur historian, absolutely loved it.

You really enter history here. It is in every stone, every floorboard, humanities hopes and prayers over the centuries.

A rather disappointing medieval hospital maintained well by volunteers with nothing really worth seeing. No real history to be soaked up or expressed. The chapel above explains more but is a very much more modern example in comparison. Would of liked to of seen more atmosphere for my money!

The Eastbridge Hospital is one of the most important but often overlooked buildings in Canterbury. Originally created in 1190, Eastbridge was traditionally a refuge for people visiting the tomb of St Thomas Becket. You must visit the chapel on the top floor.
