The best vegan burgers which are good value. I ordered from deliveroo and I’ve had both the ‘chicken’ and beef-style patty. I also got the vg dirty waffle fries which were excellent. My only advice is I wouldn’t order the frickles as they were soggy and the batter had slipped off them.

I’ve been dying to try Fat Hippo for so long! I didn’t even realise there was one in Durham, and on an impromptu visit we stumbled across it. They were really accommodating and found us a seat to enjoy a meal, even though we hadn’t prebooked. The burger was incredible. Easily the best burger I have ever eaten in my life. I ordered the Stinky Pete burger which was so flavourful and the portions are really generous. The onion jam they use is delicious too, I think I could become addicted to it. The staff were all super friendly and helpful and our visit was all round great. I love the decor of the place and it has a nice, chilled atmosphere. The only downside was that the ‘Fast Hippo’ menu isn’t available on weekends. This was a little disappointing to one of the people we visited with as he has a smaller appetite and wanted a smaller burger option. Regardless, this place deserves 5 stars because everything else is flawless.
Independent burger restaurant in the centre of Durham city serving hamburgers fries chicken burgers and vegan options to deliver or takeaway. Masks and distancing in place for foreseeable future as expected. Close to Durham Cathedral and Castle.
I am not vegan or a vegetarian - but the food here is fantastic! If I wanted a burger, I would get the mushroom burger!!!!! Amazing.
It's been my favourite place to eat for a while, the burgers are perfectly done, juicy and tender, without any charred aftertaste, the fat hippo sauce is beautiful, and the different unique burgers they offer burst with flavour, from what I've heard their vegan burgers are beautiful too! If you go, their 'fast hippo' burgers are a lot cheaper, but treat yourself to a proper one with some dirty fries. The 4x4 is a stack of 4 burgers with cheese, fat hippo sauce, and bacon, and it is a mountain to eat, but if you know about certain things, there is an even bigger secret beast to conquer ;). Go and enjoy one of the best burgers you will ever have, at one of their amazing and atmospheric locations.
