I was amazed by Maison Dieu and how much there was to see in the building. It is opened on Wednesdays from ten until four and you can arrange group tours. I paid two pounds and had a guided tour by a charming lady named Liz. The earliest parts of Maison Dieu date from around 1203 but it has changed over the years. It is currently undergoing restoration. Pilgrims used to stay there when journeying to Canterbury to visit the shrine of Thomas Becket. The building is still in use for civic events, weddings and many other events. I was particularly interested in the windows and all the beautiful paintings. I plan to visit again with my family.
