Such a beautiful castle. Unfortunately I could not go inside as there were no more tickets available. But the grounds are open to the public and these are beautifully kept and also well worth the visit.

Not far from Arnhem lies the charming castle of Doorwerth situated on the river Rhine. The first castle, probably a wooden structure, was first mentioned in records around the second half of the 13th century. Later it was rebuilt from stone. The castle of Doorwerth has a unique and truly delightful appearance. Its picturesque surroundings add to the character, and despite being surrounded by a moat, it feels inviting. The grounds of the castle feature one of the oldest trees in Holland. The acacia tree was planted there around the year 1600. Nowadays the castle is open for visitors, it has three museums, and the impressive great hall is available for events and receptions.
Impressive castle, still in tact and well accessible. There is a restaurant and garden. Due to current restrictions, you have to book a visit to ensure there are not too many visitors at any one time.
When ever I am in the area I drop in. Gorgeous location, a great winter market held here and the cafe offers prompt friendly service. Their cakes are to die for. Delicious!
A very nice experience with the surrounding walk paths and the castle tour. The history is of course the most interesting part and how the castle has been part of history. You can get a laminated guide “book” in English, which was immensely helpful. The “privy” back in the day was not very private, but I guess very convenient to have it in the living room. Take a detour and check it out and have a nice walk.
We couldn't enter the castle but the surroundings already worth to stop by
Very nice castle Nice unguided tour. Set your own pace. You get a great castle feel. And a good idea how the castle was used through the centuries. The cafe is nice too. Good food and nice staff. And there are many great hikes and bike trails going to and from the castle. Through the near-by forests or by the the river Rijn. A nice day! ️️️️
Beautiful castle, highly recommend it. Fun hiking paths nearby too. A few fully decorated rooms. A exposition about hunting in the area, about forestry. And the standard info about the castle. Also a museum nearby with paintings but that was closed when i visited. Don't forget to take your own food because the nearby cafe isn't well priced. Museum card is accepted.
