Decided to try Doggers Plaice after a recommendation and good reviews. Turned up at a reasonable time as I saw they keep limited hours. Placed an order a waited for our fish to be fried. Only 2 other customers when we arrived. Was kept waiting and waiting while they seemed to be serving everyone else. Was asked twice to repeat our order of a simple large cod and chips and Rock and chips. As we stood waiting we saw some good looking pieces of fish being served so thought it would be worth the wait. Eventually got our order and paid and headed back. When we opened our food i was met with a small soggy piece of Cod certainly not a large and substandard to what we saw in the shop. Really disappointed. Don't know if it was something to do with us not being local but hoped for better. Had a meal from a different shop in town earlier in the week and found them better. Won't be rushing back to Doggers Plaice anytime soon.

Had no expectations, we just fancied fish and chips for lunch on a damp October afternoon, they'd got all their covid precautions in place, all sensibly done so we felt confident, ordered, rock and haddock, both cooked to order, two portions of chips and some mushy peas, as we waited a small queue developed which gave us confidence of the quality, the fryer was friendly and calm and we soon had lunch wrapped up to go. It was raining hard so no sitting outside enjoying the view just sat in the car on a miserable day, however the fish and chips way exceeded expectations, perfectly fried fresh fish fillets, a fine art in itself, proper potato chips and lovely mushy peas, the weather and view didn't dampen the joy of eating a wonderful lunch. If I lived locally this would be a very regular stop in the week to pick up a meal. Very impressed and thanks.

Food is nice, but a bit tight with the chips for what they charge you.

Always lovely fish and chips so fresh, a good choice on menu. Nice staff. Not too long a wait to be served especially with all the new protocols in place
