Hidden away in the picturesque village of Dobcross, Saddleworth, you will find this convivial member organised club. The home of the award winning Dovcross silver band. An immaculate bowing green with highly competitive teams. But my visit was to taste, in quantity, the latest selection of locally produced real ales. With fellow CAMRA members we settled on White Rat, a 4% pale hoppy beer, brewed in Huddersfield by The Rat Brewery that was in excellent condition, In essence an enjoyable social evening with the added bonus our CAMRA membership allowed us the generous discount. Get your exploration head on and search for this oasis of pleasure.
I played bowls here in a match against the home team. It's an excellent club with a fabulous silver band, if you like brass bands then you might want to see them.
A hidden gem, you may say. Located off the main Dobcross Square by a short walk. This bowling and band club has been here since the 1950s I believe. The building is formed from a large hut, but is very well appointed inside: snooker room, lounge, then band room-cum-function room. Four cask ales available often from JW Lees. The bowling green gives you great views across the valley. Recommended
