I have always been extremely pleased with the professionalism, sensitivity, and integrity of the Depoe Bay USCG! They have been awesome in every way. I have been crossing the Depoe Bay bar for nearly 50 years. They have towed me in when disabled, they have called me on the radio to let me know the bar may be restricted, and they have always answered their phone and been very polite and courteous. Last Saturday was the first time in my experience that I felt they should have made a different call. They restricted the bar crossing to 30’ out of fear of an upcoming minus tide. This was very excessive and prevented the safe crossing of dozens of fishermen who were turned away, some of whom trailed on to Newport where there were zero size restrictions. Later at 11:30am they lifted the restrictions, but it was too late for those who traveled from out of town. That being said, I still give them a five star review! I’m grateful if they error it’s on the side of safety! They are a great team!
