One of the only buidings to maintain its original use in Harare is Cleveland House, built for the city's Department of Works in 1947. Milton Cleveland was born in new Bruswick, Canada in 1864. he travelled to the then Rhodesia in 1895 with two friends. Cleveland established a business as a builder and some of his construction include Anold Building and Lonrho Building. In addition to being mayor on six different occassions, Cleveland was a member of the city council for a period of 30 years from 1903 and a member of the Legislative Assembly from 1914 to 1919. He died in 1942.
