About 22 million people worldwide with Parkinson’s Disease and Essential Tremor experience these tremors in a very severe form. Even though a tremor itself is harmless, it causes serious difficulties with activities in daily life. Up to this day there is no cure and current treatment to suppress tremor is inefficient. STIL is developing a new method to suppress tremor, based on the concept on noise-cancelling. A tremor is basically an unwanted vibration. Adding an opposite vibration to the tremor will cancel out the motion, such that the tremor will dissapear. We developed a patented actuator which can apply an 'anti-vibration'​ to the lower arm, thereby stabilizing the hands. This technology can be integrated into a compact wrist brace, capable of actively suppressing the tremors, but without the side effects.
