In my life, I have been a history teacher, managed a rafting company, been a tour guide and guide book contributor in South America, and an advanced world traveller. I met Alvaro ten years ago on a rafting trip in the Sacred Valley, before he formed his own company. It was clear to me then that he was a veteran river guide, with a mesmerizing passion for sharing his love of Peru. We hit it off immediately. So much so, he let me finish our run in a kayak. And after our float, while other happy paddlers re-lived the excitement amongst themselves, Alvaro and I found time for a private conversation, taking a pic in the a moment I still cherish, just echoing each other's passion for rivers, nature and history.
