I developed life-threatening form of altitute sickness (HAPE) backpacking in the Ausangate mountains. Clinical Padro was the second hospital in Cusco I came to get help. They had excellent doctors, facilities and equipment. Within a few minutes of admission I had all the blood tests done, oxygen and IV going, followed by chest XRay. They stabilized me in 12 hours and released to go home. The room was private, very comfortable, with a private extra guest bed, sofa a d private bathroom.

Needed a rabies shot while on holiday in Cusco. I asked my hotel to call for me to make sure they had the meds there before I went and organised a cab. He called them and next thing a Dr came to Hotel to see me (with an unneeded ambulance to take me back to clinic - funny embarrassing). Dr was a lovely woman with great english. Phoned her clinic and checked on cost for me before we left. The clinic was very professional and although I did get passed around a bit from admin to pharmacy on premises to cashier and then to nurse for injection, everyone was very friendly, professional and helpful. Language was no issue. All up it cost 400 sol -150 for consult and 250 for meds. Dr wanted me to also buy antibiotics and anti inflammatories but was quite ok when i said i didnt think i needed them. The admin woman really tried her best to contact my insurance co. for me so they could bill them direct but couldn't get thru after 5 attempts. Don't be put off by it being "for locals". I give them thumbs up.
Arrived at this clinic with a broken ankle, jumping on one foot towards the reception. No help offered. After seeing the "doctor" in the 6th floor, I had to jump back to the reception to pay for an x ray. no help offered. When I asked to have some support like a wheel chair, I was starred at with rolling eyes and 15 mins later I was pushed around the hospital in a broken wheelchair by a security guy. This is 3 weeks a ago now. They still did not send me a medical report.
