As I was walking along the east side of Rainier Ave , Columbia City Ale House looked inviting......and a moment later I was sipping an IPA. My burger and side of potato salad came soon after. Service was very good. The food was great. And I got to meet Emily: the bartender, waitperson, and new owner! She said when the previous owner wanted to close the doors forever, she decided to buy it to keep it going. Her 7 years work experience there is a major plus. Full bar, pub fare, at least one veggie option, a good selection of draft beer with rotating taps.

Great atmosphere, loved this place so much! They clearly strive to emulate a London style pub which they have done very well. Tried the curried cashews and hummus plate with a cold cider during happy hour, for a perfect early evening stop. We checked out (menu, walked in) about 6 other places but didn’t feel like they were great representations of each food type. But this Ale House nailed the London Pub style!

The reuben is the best I’ve ever had. Amazing flavor on the rye bread which was lightly toasted before grilling. Corned beef was fall apart tender. Red cabbage slaw. Get it with the pickled potato salad (which is in my top two potato salads ever). These folks aren’t afraid of flavor. Coupled with a nice beer selection and it’s a winner. Why are you not in line right now?

Nice local place with weekly specials for meals. Various special ales each week. Sports TVs on mute and intimate restaurant with several sections of seating. Muted lighting, nice atmosphere, friendly staff.
