We in Sri Lanka have placed education as a fundamental right of every citizen and as of 2015 our population stands at 93.63% of adult literacy rate, which is above average as per the world and regional standards and the world looks up to us for this. Following a visit to a school I have developed an interest and concern for the education of children in our country. We have been educating our children in the schools using very traditional methods of teaching, in spite of various modern developments that have taken place around the world especially in the field of education system. With the emergence of Information and Communication Technology there has been a significant change in most of the aspects of our life. These changes have been successfully applied in the education system by various countries already. A few of the advantages of online education are listed below. 1. Convenience and flexibility in learning 2. Greater ability to concentrate 3. Learn not just the academics but even other subjects of interest 4. Avoid commuting to different parts of the country inturn saving money. I have been thinking of introducing ICT to teach and learn the school curriculum as formulated by the National Institute of Education, Sri Lanka in our schools. The objective of this teaching - learning project is to facilitate the learning process of all the children in Sri Lanka effectively irrespective of their language medium and social class. Slow learning students and backward students will especially be affected in a positive way, as this would enable us to train the students anywhere and anytime with minimum financial burden to the students. I believe this would improve the quality of our education system and most importantly our students will be on par with the rest of the world.
