I just visited the Maps Sales center of Survey Department of Sri Lanka. Location is very prominent infront of Asiri Medical Hospital in Kirula Road Narahenpita. All types of maps can be purchased here. Road maps, town maps, district maps, topographical maps and many more. Digital maps are also available here on request. This comes in JPEG format. The staff is very nice and helpful.

This is the oldest department in Sri Lanka, Started in year 1800. Surveyor General is the head of the department.
Currently I'm working there as an IT assistant in IT Branch after my first appointment in government service. Have no idea about public services and their efficiency.

Do you know survey department is started by British somewhere in 1900. It has this much of history. Does any one know survey department has a aeroplane? Yes they have aeroplane to survey the land from sky. From here you can buy lot of maps and lot of. Information. Also they maintain a database of licensed surveyors. If you want to find a surveyor for any reason such as a court case, contact them.
Survey Department is the oldest government organisation in sri lanka. The Head office building is very ancient but they are maintaining very well. Officers are very friendly and helpful.
This is the national surveying and mapping organization dominating in fields such as land surveying, mapping, remote sensing, geographical information systems, land information systems etc. District survey office of Colombo district is located in the same building (At Level 2) where people can obtain certified copies of plans. Map sales unit is located just near the main gate. Ask from security staff if you are not sure where you need to go for your requirement. Canteen, toilets and KIOSK are available for the convenience of public.
