The Theatre Chipping Norton Reviews | Rating 4.7 out of 5 stars (5 reviews)

The Theatre Chipping Norton is located in Chipping Norton, United Kingdom on 2 Spring St. The Theatre Chipping Norton is rated 4.7 out of 5 in the category theater in United Kingdom. Theatre, Comedy, Music, Cinema, Gallery, Workshops. Arts and social charity based in Chipping Norton. This fabulous building began life as a Salvation Army Citadel, with the first stones, still visible on the front exterior of the building, being laid on 3rd August 1888. In a strange quirk of fate, its designers and engineers had also worked on many Victorian Music Halls, leaving it perfectly proportioned for its future theatrical life. "A programme of distinctive artistic adventure" The Guardian In 2008, John Terry took over from Caroline as Artistic Director, overseeing a period of further growth, receiving the 2009/10 TMA Stage Award for Achievement in Regional Theatre on behalf of The Theatre. We now stand as a rare example of a successful rural receiving and producing theatre, funded & supported almost entirely by local people, local councils and local businesses as well as the Friends Membership scheme. The Theatre also receives some support from charitable trusts & foundations but is not currently in receipt of funding from Arts Council England. The Theatre has earned an acclaimed reputation for producing its own creative work, and notable productions of Yerma, Kreutzer Sonata, The Rise & Fall of Little Voice and The Island live in the minds of our audiences. These stand alongside perhaps our greatest achievement, the world-renowned Chippy Pantomime, which draws on a long history of traditional values, top-notch creative teams, and original, daring twists to make it an irreplaceable part of countless family Christmases. 2017-18 will see 101 performances! “The Theatre and Cinema of Chipping Norton is not only a cultural centre but a shared delight that binds the community together and of which we are proud.” Sir Ben Kingsley, March 2018 Situated at the heart of the Cotswolds, where three counties and four regions meet, The Theatre Chipping Norton is a mixed arts venue, hosting, co-producing and supporting some of the most exciting, accessible and entertaining culture in the region. Today we take pride in our existence as a theatre, an art-house cinema, a gallery and a concert hall. We are a resource for our community and a registered charity but we are also a professional venue, welcoming over 50,000 visitors every year. We are something unique, but we are also different things to different people. We are the cause and subject of many arguments and debates, and a fair amount of acclaim and affection.

Round trip of 120 miles to see David Bradley in A Christmas Carol, exceptional performance and theatre staff did a fine job of social distancing. Small, 300 year old theatre, full of atmosphere. Get there and support a wonderful tradition.

Wonderful little theatre. Watched Dear Zoo with my 4 year old. He absolutely loved it! There's free parking just a 5 min walk from the theatre and it's easy to find. Very small and cute but you need to book in advance!

Was such a privilege to be back in here once again! David Bradley was brilliant and the lady who was on stage with him brought the atmosphere alive. Such an amazing duo 5*

Lovely small Victorian era theatre with good views & sound , not much leg room upstairs on the side balconies, a decent bar , free WI-FI & friendly staff.

During uncertain times I felt safe in how the theatre had been set out. The secret garden was a lovely film. As always the staff are fantastic.
