Founded in 1940's, this classical hotel was the best place to stay along the shore, in a way, still being nowadays. Lovely classic facilities and full of Sinatra's atmosphere. Definitely the best in town

Stayed here in 1989, when it was still owned by the government. It was faded a bit then, but I post this review because I stayed numerous times during that summer, and learned to ask for an oceanfront room. The sea breeze, the smells, the clear sky most evenings, totally makes up for the older look. I know I can find a more modern place to stay in Chimbote, but nothing can compare to this original tourist hotel. You just have to walk through the place to know you’re home.

I loved just about everything about the Hotel Gran Chimu in Chimbote, Peru during a recent stay. The location is perfect: on the Pacific ocean drive and in downtown. The building is inviting and colorful. My room was nice and the price is reasonable (although you can find cheaper hotels if price is the only consideration). I loved sleeping to the sound of the ocean waves! They didn't ask me to pay until leaving. I did have to ask them to turn on the wi fi, however. I didn't come here to watch TV but I would prefer a simple "on off" system instead of the one they have which requires two remotes and a mini course in how to work them. I would not hesitate to stay here again. It was my treat to myself when in Chimbote. PS- you can get a taxi right outside and there are plenty of restaurants /stores within walking distance including currency exchanges I also like the fact that there is a security booth across the street in the park.
