In theory, I should love this place. They have an great selection of teas. Some are very good, some do however lack character.. The real issue is how unbelievably judgemental the staff are here at this place. Could you imagine a working in a shop where people come who like niche teas or coffees and being condescending to them for liking such things? Say you disagree with me compared to your experience, fair enough. How about, talking about customers, to other customers while they are sitting in the cafe and can hear you? By any margin that is extremely unprofessional/rude, I would know, I was trained and worked in the catering business myself. Though other reviews do not reflect this I have spoken to people with similar experiences, they choose to avoid this place. I often buy my teas online due to this, despite having some good teas just around the corner from me. If you know what you want, I would suggest going in and getting what you need and leaving. That's if they have managed to put the teas in the right section of course..

A unique place, we popped in for a coffee and felt like we'd walked into a Victorian coffee merchants house. There are large wooden boxes distributed in a U shape allowing you to pick your blend of bean. Probably 30 different blends with a good description of each. You can literally pick who h o e you want to drink and the for d them and put them in a cafetiere for you. You can also buy any weight of coffee that the either give you as bean or grind to your requirements!! My pictures do t do it justice

We were looking for a local supplier (as we are in Derbyshire) for me, a tea addict and my husband a coffee lover. We have had one delivery so far and the quality is excellent and the prices are competitive. I had a query as one of the teas I purchased wasn’t to my taste and asked for recommendations. The reply within a few hours (taking into consideration it was in the evening) was perfect, not only did the reply have tasteful humour but posted me in the right direction. Cannot wait to come and visit in person.

Northern Tea Merchants is such a gem. More so than tea, I go here to buy my coffee beans and they have such a wonderful selection, as well as their own fantastic blends. They can grind them for you onsite too if, like me, your home grinder's given up the ghost! Very knowledgeable and friendly staff and a lovely little cafe too. I'm not a fan of tea but my tea-loving friends say their selection is great. Definitely a must-visit for any home coffee enthusiast in the area.

We had an afternoon tea which was wonderful. The food was excellent and beautifully presented, served by friendly, knowledgeable staff. They also have a great variety of tea and coffee blends and nice gift ideas. Well done to all!
