My friend and I brought our families to Milky Way Farm for a private one-hour tour, which ended up being led by the woman who owns and lives on the farm. From the onset, there was a noticeably uncomfortable difference in the way she treated my daughter, who is white and my friend’s daughter, who is Asian American. To start, my friend’s daughter was scolded for interacting with the goats through the fence, while my daughter did the same, without incident. My daughter went on receive what is seemingly the “normal” farm tour experience (e.g., being asked direct questions to keep her engaged and inviting her to pet the animals). On the other hand, my friend and her daughter were spoken to in a condescending manner and left out of certain animal experiences completely. Any hesitation we may have had that we were somehow misjudging the situation, was gone as soon as she spoke about foregoing the expensive cow milking machinery and just “hiring a bunch of Mexicans to milk the cows instead”, as a legitimate money-saving strategy for a dairy farm. Unfortunately, this does not appear to be the first incident with this person. A review made by another Asian family, alleges the same kind of unwarranted aggressive and condescending treatment directed at their young son. This is not a coincidence. I hope you take these events seriously and make whatever changes necessary to ensure that your farm is a welcoming place for all children. Especially as a popular field trip location for many area schools. At a minimum, I do not think the female owner should be giving tours to any children of color.

Was there last year for the first time and had a really great day. Corn maze, goats, sheep, ducks, chickens, pigs, pumpkins and more. Don't feed the goats. (sorry!) Came back this year and had another really great day, in spite of masks/social distancing. Good times in the pumpkin patch. Bring a wagon. Check their website for hours/tickets Gonna be a new family tradition
We had a fun afternoon. The process of paying ahead for a time slot was a little surprising at first, but the amount of people present at any given was welcomed. No hayride for us. We walked to the pumpkin patch and welcomed the steps we earned. There were plenty of pumpkins in all different sizes and varieties. The Milky Way employee and the head of the pumpkin patch was happy to take a family photo of us. The farm market had plenty of fresh products. We had fun looking at the goats and sheep. The corn maze was a fun little trek. We made a stop for ice cream to wrap up a great afternoon.
Incredible farm. Very well-organized and run by the most friendly people in PA. Plenty of parking available and everyone was required to wear masks and try to maintain social distancing, but the farm was so big that it felt very safe walking around. Wide variety of pumpkins and produce available for purchase and the ice cream is heavenly. Wish that there were more farm animals to pet and interact with, but overall a phenomenal experience for a very low price.
One of the best ice creams I have tasted in a while. So light weight and happily digestible. Good farm feeling with abundant greenery and cows . A visit would leave you with a local dairy farming feeling. I tried the Rose and Caramel Dulce de leche, both of which were delicious and filled with authentic taste. Definitely need to make multiple visits in order to try all the flavors :)
