Beautiful Temple located in Cheongye mountain.
(2020.10) Due to COVID-19, wearing a mask in the temple is mandatory. A temple located in the CheongGye mountain, Uiwang. Founded in 7c by Kingdom of Shilla, and became a big temple in 1284 by Kingdom of Goryeo. Became very famous in 2000, when they found Buddhism's legendary flower 'Udumbara' in the temple. The flower was found on the left eye of an Amitabha buddha. It's a memeber of the Jogye order, the biggest Buddhism in South Korea. Unlike other Buddhist temples, this temple's main building is '극락보전(GeukRakBo-Jeon)', where Amitabha buddha is worshiped. Next to that building there is '지장전(JiJang-Jeon)' where Ksitigarbha buddha is worshiped. The temple is famous for Ksitigarbha, who gives salvation to the deads. They offer free lunch during 12:0013:00 for poor travelers. However, nowadays it's purpose is to prevent hikers throwing trashes in the mountain. If you're trying to have lunch, it's proper to donate at least 5000 won. There is a lying Buddha on the right side of the temple, where you can find a way to the peak of the Chunggyesan next to the Buddha. There is a parkinglot in front of the temple but there aren't many. There are two buses connecting the temple and the Indeogwon station. However, it still takes 15mins from bus stop to the temple by foot.
