Such a sad loss. What has been our local traditional pub for over 10 years is now guarded by bouncers and full of chavs. Whilst I appreciate that the owner is trying to capture a new market, they have lost sight of the changing market. A lot of the city slickers currently working at home in Chelmsford looking to spend their money somewhere decent find that the Woolpack is no longer that place.
Had dinner with my fiancée at the Woolpack tonight around 8pm. I ordered a hot dog and my fiancée ordered a chilli dog. While we were waiting for our food, a Deliveroo driver came in and picked up a food order, and I said to my partner ‘why would people order pub food when there’s so many proper restaurants delivering?’. We quickly received our hot dogs and after one bite, I completely understood why people would order their dinner from there. The hot dogs were SOOO GOOD! The crispy onions on top were great, also the chips were amazing and I don’t even usually like chips. Super yummy, highly recommend The bar staff and Landlord were all lovely. They were very attentive, sat us down as soon as we walked in, asked us how our meals were and brought us drinks quickly after we asked for them. This great service was all while the bar staff were trying to deal with multiple groups of proper rowdy people who couldn’t stay in their seats, and couldn’t seem to figure out how to order drinks. They handled the situation brilliantly and to be honest I’d give 5 stars just for the bar staff alone, they stayed so professional at all times and were clearly looking after every single customer that was in there. Needless to say we’ll definitely be coming back and we’ll also order food from them in future!
