I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I booked a day's cookery course for my two grown-up daughters and myself, to celebrate my elder daughter's birthday, but I needn't have worried - we had an amazing day. Chef Matthew Benson-Smith made us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived and put us at our ease when we sometimes struggled to match his professional examples. He and his hardworking assistant Sarah looked after us so well...the bucks fizz was a lovely touch..... and we learned so much throughout the day. Matthew tailor-made the course for us on an Italian theme and packed so much into one day (generously running into his own time so that we could complete everything). I never realised that making bread and pasta could be so much fun! Matthew is a brilliant chef, a great teacher and a thoroughly nice guy. I would certainly recommend a day at Matthew's cookery school for a fun, educational and thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Matthew helped us develop our food-to-go concept from an idea to reality and his expertise was simply invaluable. Working with Matthew is a pleasure, his passion for food and positive attitude are infectious traits.

The Chef Benson-Smith Academy provided a brilliant Corporate Team Building event, hosted by Chef Matthew Benson Smith himself, at his Brighouse Headquarters last Sunday. An Artisan Bread making theme was the order of the day for a team of three key staff (the type of event was suitable for up to 4 people, I think). They had a creative and educational experience that was made thoroughly enjoyable through Matthew's expertise, delivery, his personality and organisational skills. The team were kept hard at it (it is not that easy kneading all that dough!) learning to make a range of bread; Cottage loaves, stuffed Naan Bread, traditional Ciabatta, Brioche, Butternut Basil Bread and Breakfast Rolls. The day started at 10.00am and finished at 4.00pm with a break for a wonderful lunch provided by Matthew and his wife Sarah. At the end of the day, the team had had great success with the bread making and departed loaded up with their delicious creations. The team could not speak highly enough of the experience, they took great satisfaction from what they had learned and how they had shared a fantastic event together. From a company perspective, it was great value for money too and the team were guided throughout by one of Britain's great chefs. I think the experience could be compared to one of the ewards\ that the winning team would get in the BBC TV show The Apprentice. I will certainly be looking to enable high performing teams from my company to experience similar events at the Chef Benson-Smith Academy in the future. Excellent. I would highly recommend this type of event to others.
