On road parking for free as it no entry to private vehicles. I parked outside the community centre on front street. Steep concrete road down to the vale but remember you have to walk back up. Not really suitable for mobility difficulties. Trails are over grown and slippery over the winter months. We tried to walk around the lake which is used for fishing but we didn’t achieve this and not sure if it’s possible. There is a National Nature Reserve (Cassop Vale) walk, this can be found on viewfinder.com we walked a little of this but headed back the same way we started apparently this walk has distant views of Durham Cathedral, passing through lovely countryside and returning to Cassop Vale along the side of Crowtrees Local Nature Reserve. We seen an owl but not sure on species, but quite large, foraging is rip here too and we picked, blackberries, vetch, clover and himalayan balsam seeds (just like pine nuts). Worth a visit.

Nice pleasant place for a walk, but only basic
Plenty of rudd! Might get a perch on your last cast if you're lucky
The staff are so welcoming and the food is awesome !!
Excellent nature reserve, fishing lake at one end and long walk along a trail full of wildlife, huge Peacock butterfly pollution and the dragonflies were out, very tranquil and ideal for dog walking!
