A gorgeous walk with informational markers to educate on the location. Tiny parking lot, but gorgeous trails overlooking the lake. Large rock walls, ferns, moss, just gorgeous. The monuments are touching.

Beautiful place in a secret kind of way. From the road it only looks like a small parking lot beside a hill. However, once you walk a little bit further it opens up to a trail that visually has a lot to offer. Serene. The history of the place was interesting.

It's a great walk, and a nice look at history. An incredibly sad event happened here, and you can still see what's left. The defunct railroad makes for an easy walk, however there is an incline to get to the entrenched positions protecting the railroad.

We loved Allatoona! Full of historical information, uphill hikes, an amazing rocky beachy area....just beautiful!

We enjoyed a 3 mile hike through the battlefield and old railroad line route. Following the old rail line, the hike is flat and easy, while surrounded by some rolling hills, forest and the lake. We took some of the side trails to former cannon placements and the Star Fort, which added some 370 feet of elevation gain to our 3.87 mile walk. We also walked across the earthen dam that helps to form Lake Allatoona, adding some distance to the walk. Most of the walking is shaded. As you walk along the lake, look to your right for a small trail that leads down to the lakeside. There, you'll find a nesting site and a great place to watch birds, geese and boats.
