The Cantlop is another engineering first designed and supervised by one of Britain's greatest engineers, namely Thomas Telford. One major difference this bridge has no toll house and it crosses a small tributary to the Severn River. Its wide and has stood the test of time parking is available and benches with table are provided for those intent on a picnic. For those who are engineering minded this bridge is well worth a visit.

Quit, get away from it all picnic spot.
Excellent bridging experience. The cast iron item spans from one side to the other side of a smallish river, as you'd expect of a bridge. Well worth it for a quick game of Pooh Sticks or a light snack.
Easy to miss... The last T Telford iron bridge still in-situ in Shropshire.
The Cantlop Bridge, built by Thomas Telford in 1813, spans the Cound Brook. Unlike the Iron Bridge in Ironbridge, the bridge here fully utilises the strength of the cast iron and uses less of the material than other stone or wooden bridges of the time. The bridge is no longer suitable for motor traffic and stopped being used in 1970.
