This review gives me a chance to acknowledge the fantastic care my 83 year old mother received whilst resident at Canford Chase for 5 weeks arriving Christmas Eve 2012, in case it helps someone .facing the same problem as I did. I live 150 miles away and so hearing from Poole Hospital three days before Christmas that instead of sending my mother to ehab\ care,, they now planned to discharge her on Christmas eve with a broken hip and wrist and barely able to move, was not the best of news. A quick Google and Canford Chase was the first home I called. From then on in I felt both my mother and I were being looked after. The nursing care was superb and the Home dealt with the complexities of liaising with hospital, GP and community care, over discharge, medication, post operative care etc. As impressive was the food, the many friendly and caring staff, the well thought out activities, and the respect shown to my mother. Canford Chase is not cheap, though in terms of quality compares favourably with hotels of a similar price. For us the investment was worthwhile. The sense of feeling looked after and feeling safe had a very positive impact on my mother's recovery. So much so that within 5 weeks and less than two months since breaking her hip she has been able to move on to a flat in a supported independent living development, where she is happy and thriving. She was very happy at Canford Chase and now confirms that should independent living become too difficult, she would be happy to return. Quite something for someone who had been terrified about the prospect of a care home. We felt looked after too, and loved the way visitors were invited to join meals with residents - great when facing a 300 mile round trip, and are grateful for the support we received from the staff team during what was a very difficult period. It is good to feel we did the best we could for our mother.
