Such a terrible experience for my first time! This part of Birmingham is usually pretty 'indie' however the cafe itself had very basic interior and the garden was overgrown (I think purposely) but looked a bit of a wreck. The garden felt completely disconnected to the cafe and the poor waitresses had to keep walking up and down the steps and all the way back to the kitchen; they looked exhausted! I was served a rather expensive (At 6) small banana bread and peanut butter breakfast with a long hair straight through the middle of it. They replaced the food and as a good will gesture they served us a doughnut (which if I am honest did not taste good and was extremely dry!). The banana bread breakfast tasted GREAT though! Shortly after we had two coffees served to us, a capochino and a latte of which we had no sugar or sweetener provided. We requested these on the assumption we'd have a spoon to stir the coffee, we had to use a fork. Also assuming the coffee would be hot; this was not the case, they were stone cold. The waitress replaced the coffees but the second round of coffees were still cold, we were too embarrassed to tell the staff! We were very shocked (especially because of Covid) to witness staff handle baguettes in the cafe with their bare hands and a guy using the BBQ outside to turn meat over also using his bare hands. Why not use gloves or a spatular? Lucky to recieve one star as we recieved a shockingly bad service however the food did taste good and at least 1 staff member had a smile on their face.

Lovely place. Has been really great during the pandemic at changing what it is to stay relevant. At the moment it's a nice little deli that does fantastic sandwiches and cakes. I've had to write this after having the Christmas sandwich a couple of times. What an absolute triumph. Perfectly balanced, a sprout slaw (who knew that would be so great?!) and the bread that it's on is is a joy; a nice bite but not sharp, yet not soft... complements it beautifully. Always been a smashing place since it first opened, but that sandwich.......
Just had the best sandwiches from caneat! They always do great food but the Brie, Hash Browns, Truffed Mushroom Gravy, Cranberry, Sprout Slaw sandwich is definitely up there as one of the best sandwiches I've ever had! The pork and apricot meatball one was also very nice.
What a mighty sandwich. Generously loaded cold cuts , fresh leaves and a delightful mayo/pickle dressing . Tasty decaf coffee and the best mince pie i have ever tasted.....seriously decadent mincemeat with thick butter loaded pastry , blew my mind. I ate at leisure sitting on a bench by the river. Got messy, would have appreciated napkin.
Absolutely the best food in Stirchley. The menu changes frequently so you are always excited to visit and be surprised by the quality of food time and time again. The food ranges from toppings on sourdough all the way to standalone dishes. The coffee is great as well, and don't get me started on the cake (to die for). They have certainly captivated my love for food and my repeat business too. Couldn't recommend more.
