This school has a great reputation. However, I do not think it is a particularly good school. It is a school that has built its reputation over the years, and I think at the very beginning it did have a high level of teaching, and of connections to top universities like Cambridge. I am a student, and can tell you it is probably at the same level of any other good sixth form college, like Parkside, The Oakes etc. I have encountered teachers who are not satisfied with their job, and so don't mark homework, or any extra work you do at home to get yourself a better grade. Of course, there are good and bad teachers everywhere, however at Hills Road, because students are left almost completely in the dark (and by that I mean there is a lack of support), it really has an impact on the student's wellbeing and achievement if they encounter a teacher like this. I am convinced that many Hills Road students attain top grades at the end of their A-level studies, almost entirely because Hills Road only allows students who have relatively high GCSE grades. This means they are very likely to achieve at A-level. I don't think there are many high achievers, simply because the quality of the teaching is supreme. The positives of this school, however, are that there is a great atmosphere, and students are completely free to express and be creative. For example, the school promotes many different rights for minorities, LGBTQ etc. This is extremely important for teenagers before they become adults. In conclusion, I wouldn't send my children here, especially not if it's hassle getting there, for example if I live far away.

I attended two courses at Hills Road Sixth Form College, English Course for Adults and Advanced Photography Course. The college is well structured, easily to find in the city and accessible by walk or by bus. The classes are big enough for a class of 15-20 students. The photography's studio is well equipped, it's relatively small, but exactly what a photography student needs, there is also a darkroom. The teachers are available anytime by email for suggestion or question. It's a good place to learn.
