Well, okay, this will be a long one. I wanted to try pole for a very long time, so when I found that there is a studio downtown that teaches it I decided to get the two week trial pass. It was about a year ago and truth be told, I was very nervous before the first class. Like many of us, I am not comfortable around new people, especially when doing things I am not good at, but somehow I decided to stick around. Obviously, I have been going to the studio since then. Having demo'ed a few other pole studios in Calgary, this one is, hands down, the most polished, clean and well-managed. The classes are structured and provide a good challenge for people with different amounts of experience. Moving from one level to another is dependent on the individual progress of the student, so that each person can work on their strength and flexibility on their own pace. The drop-in system for different level classes allows to experience different teaching styles of all instructors and learn some useful tips from each of them. Rigorous COVID-related sanitization procedures and distancing protocols make it a great socially distanced alternative to the gym, that will not only help you get fit, but also enable you get into pretty shapes and improve your flexibility. Most importantly, Robbie puts a LOT of effort to create an inclusive and supportive community that welcomes everybody. I met more incredibly talented and intelligent people, who I was lucky to become friends with, than anywhere else in Calgary. The studio surely is one of the biggest sources of joy (and bruises lol) in my life right now. The feeling of satisfaction after a workout session in the gym is nothing compared to nailing down a trick that you have been working on, combined with cheering of the instructor and the rest of the students in the class. To say that I wholeheartedly recommend trying it out would be an understatement. And any other student of the studio would say the same thing :)

Just had my first ever class of pole dancing with owner Robbie Song! The class was absolutely amazing! He made our group of zero experience girls feel super comfortable. By the end of the class we were all able to do some very basic spins and combination routine. The studio is on the very last floor so you need to follow the small signs to get to the studio. Therefore you get a warm up going up the stairs to get to the studio. But it is so worth the climb. Will definitely be coming back to some more classes in the near future.
The studio is in a cool loft space downtown! (I love lofts so this place is amazing too me). Before you go they will text you the code to get in if your class is after 6pm. There is also a helpful video. I did the intro to pole class with Annecy and she was super high energy and explained things very well. It was a super fun class :)! Take advantage of the two week deal to try a much of classes. Recommend to book in advance because there are limited poles and I assume that goes for the other classes as well.
Great location, beautiful studio, and all the instructors are amazing. I love the options for different class styles! I’ve attended every pole studio in Calgary and I feel the most challenged at R.song, the classes move at a great pace and I feel like I’ve made a lot of progress after every class. I always feel very supported by Robbie and all the instructors, and it’s always really fun. Robbie is an INCREDIBLE pole dancer also!
I tried out a couple of R.Song's online classes that they have been hosting via zoom due to COVID-19 and they have been great! Instructors seemed organized, knowledgable, professional and had great energy. I felt challenged and encouraged and I can't wait to go to the studio when everything opens back up!
