Red Ember is a beautiful little gem located in the Kensington area of Calgary (on the other side - the side that rarely anyone walks on). Fish is super fresh, and the tempura tasted fresh as well. The Avocado Bomb was delicious! I love going to this little Japanese restaurant and trying new menu items, as well as classic favorites (like the Agedashi tofu).

We would give their chief choice 24 pieces sashimi a five star for the freshness and quality. The appetizers are tasty but each portion is rather small, don’t order the crab cakes, unless you like imitation crab caked in thick batter. Very good service.

Gotta say, I was not impressed with our takeout order the other night. The salmon tempura tasted “fishy” and the meat was blackish... the crispy rolls were soggy and the other rolls tasted... well... old. I’ll give it another try, but not before going elsewhere to get my sushi fix. Sorry guys, but maybe try and come up with a solutions to ensure your tempura doesn’t turn soggy for takeout...
We ordered miso soup, edamame, teryaki chicken, and 4 types of rolls. It was all excellent and the portion sizes were surprizingly large. I went for pickup and it's very quiet there. I'm afraid that if we don't support these neighbouhood gems, they won't be here once the pandemic restrictions are lifted.
